Congratulations to: Jacqueline McMenamin whose poetry has been included in the anthology, "You Can't Eat Flags for Breakfast" along with those of Seamus Heaney, Tom Paulin, Meave McGuckin. She has also been asked to read at the Belfast Literary Festival in November 2001. Madeline McCully who entered the Orta San Guilio, Novara, Italy poetry competition and her poem 'The Glimpse' was selected for publication in their Poetry on The Lake Anthology to be published next year. Brian Foster whose newest play, 'Mama, Elvis and Me' has been accepted by the Red Kettle Theatre for production in Dublin in Fall 2002. Mark Your Calendar! An Audience with S‚amus Dean, chaired by DPW Writer Julie Doherty. Dean will read from his work and participate in a discussion on Friday, August 10 August 2001 @ 2:00pm. Venue: An Druma M¢r, The Gasyard Centre, Derry. Eugene Sheehan's play, Lest We Forget, based on the 1981 Hunger Strikes at Long Kesh Prison will be performed, Monday, 20 August, 2001 @ 8:0pm. at the Creggan Community Centre, Derry. The Armagh Festival of Writing will take place at The Market Place
Theatre & Arts Centre, Armagh, Sat & Sun August 24th & 25th.
The weekend features workshops for poets and playwrights, a talk by
Jean O'Brien from the Irish Writers' Centre, a talk by John Brown on
the role and future of writing groups, readings and an open forum, as
well as a disco to round off proceedings. The weekend's special guest
is Olivia Nash ('Ma' from the Hole in the Wall Gang). The Rough Magic Theatre Company's play 'Midden' will have it's Irish premier at the Derry Playhouse on Wednesday, 29 August - Sunday, 2 September 2001 @8:00. Master Class: Yabo Yablonsky Script Writing Master Class (play and film) October
2001. He will also direct his play 'Jews Without Money' featuring local
talent scheduled to open at Derry Playhouse on 22 November at 8pm. Contests & Competitions: The Phillip Good Memorial Prize: Submission deadline: 21 August 2001.
Short story competition is open to all over 18. This year's judge is
Elizabeth Chadwick. Entries, up to 5000 words, accompanied by an entry
