Yabo Yablonsky Residency:

The two months that Yabo Yablonsky spent with us were significant and mutually beneficial to both him and us. The Script Writing Master Class had 26 enrollees and produced numerous plays which received script-in-hand readings by members of the class who acted out the various roles.

The European premier of Yablonsky's play, 'Jews Without Money' took place 22, 23, 24 November at The Playhouse and broke all previous attendance records for all three nights. The audience was most appreciative of the play's message and gave standing ovations at the end of every performance. Attached is a glowing review that appeared in the Derry News.

Currently there are tentative plans to raise the funds necessary to bring Yablonsky back next year for a six-months residency. During this time he would teach a more extensive Script Writing Master Class that would build upon the foundation laid in the Script Writing Master Class. And, in addition, it is anticipated that he teach an Acting Master Class. This would be a six-month programme in script interpretation and acting techniques designed to provide students with the skills necessary to create a character and sustain it on stage. This class would also train students how to audition for roles in stage, radio, television and/or in film productions.

Yablonsky was glowing in his praise for the exceptional talent and achievements of both the writers and actors he met and worked with.

Funding for Yablonsky's residency was provided by the National Lottery 'Access to the Arts' programme.

Congratulations to:

Anne Crilly for winning the Foyle Film Festival Best Irish Short Award for her film, 'Limbo'. Last month the film won a similar award at the Cork Film Festival.
