DPW Mission

Our Mission is to assist writers with improving their craft by providing a structure that will aid their completion of works-in-progress. We represent a variety of visions and voices. We span borders, ideologies, spiritual beliefs, gender and generations.

The ultimate goal of our group is to assist writers in their endeavor to have their work(s) published and/or performed. To this end we meet weekly to discuss work-in progress and critique these.

We facilitate master classes and workshops to aid our development as writers. We also convene work sessions with authors, agents, producers and publishers to enhance our marketing and promotional skills.

Formed in 2000, Derry Playhouse Writers currently has a membership of around fifty who attend our weekly sessions whenever they have a felt need to be with other writers so generally there are 8-10 at any given session. We meet every Wednesday afternoon, 1:00pm - 4:00pm at The Playhouse, 5-7 Artillery Street, Derry / L’Derry, N. Ireland and enthusiastically welcome new people. For those of you who may have been experiencing the dreaded writer’s block syndrome—we will help you to weather and wrench out of it.

Please look through this web site to get a full description of all we have to offer—then join us one Wednesday afternoon to determine if we are the group you’ve been seeking. If you are unable to attend one of our meetings either due to physical disability or distance, then please sign-up as an I-Member via the Contact Us link above. If you simply want to be able to read our work you may apply for our Library Card which allows you access to our Library.

Writing Workshops: Classes, Seminars Performances and Current Projects

Share your talent and build your writing skills at our Writing Workshops at The Playhouse, 5-7 Artillery Street, Derry, from 1-4pm every Wednesday. For those unable to attend our weekly workshops, we offer critiquing via the internet. Visit the Contact Us page for information on how to become an Internet Member and submit a draft for review.

Several times a year we obtain funding to host extensive in-depth writing classes to hone our writing skills. These are led by masters of their craft and cover all genres. Check our Calendar for DPW workshops and other DPW recommended events.

Apply for a Library Card and you will have access to the Journal of DPW Writers published in 2005.

Enjoy the talents of our members by reading the writings of our "Author of the Month". We will also post works by other members and I-Members in our Library. Furthermore, we plan to have audio versions of some of these.
